Reasons To Join Mentoring Club!

Hello, new mentors and nyp students out there!

Thank you for those who came for Mentors' Training on last Thursday, 17 June.
Remember the slips of paper you all filled up on why you joined Mentoring Club?

Our purpose is to:
1. Help you identify your aim in Mentoring Club
2. See your potential and new methods in guiding others
3. Find out your opinions and area of interest.

The Social Department have chosen 5 members whom we think that will have influential impact and their response can be used a a form of encouragement to you. Frankly speaking, we had a hard time choosing the top 5 as I believed that you all voiced out your genuine feelings in that slip of paper. Seriously. Nevertheless, these are the top 5 . . . (not in any ranking order)

1. Koh Ken Siew

By joining Mentoring Club, I would like to gain experience as to being a teacher, a counsellor, serve as a guidance to the younger generations. Thus giving me a chance to be a leader. I believe by joining the club, I will gain certain values that the textbook will not be able to tell me.

2. Tan Ming Hao

I have officially enrolled myself to NYP Mentoring Club because I desire to inculcate what i have learnt from my past to the mentees. Thereupon, from this moment onwards, I will instill the optimum knowledge to them and ensure that they metamorphose into impeccable students regardless of socially, academically or financially.

3. Shermaine Lau Boon Kuan

To gain a better understanding of the younger generation, share my experiences and impart my knowledge and skills in the hope that they can become not great but fantastic leaders of the future! To teach and guide them on the basic principles of life and help them to not only take a look at the big picture, but notice and appreciate the smaller details as well.

4. Liang Yien Mang

I joined NYP Mentoring Club because I was interested in teaching and aiding students who have difficulties in coping with their academic subjects. When I was a lower secondary student, there was no mentor standing beside me to aid and support me. I had no other way other than to cope with these problems my own. Therefore, now it is my turn to help. I want to be the person standing beside these students whenever they are in need.

5. Ong Kwee Peng

Enabling others to soar beyond their current limits of ability and perseverance is a goal of mine. Improving potential of unknown people requires a lot of planning and an outlet for doing so. The Mentoring Club enables me to reach out to students with limitless potential but with limits on their potential growth. Aside from that, the Mentoring Club is a body of mentors, so it is easier for me to both teach and learn from the mentors themselves. I hope to also learn from the Mentees, and grow both mentally and socially. Moreover, nowadays many secondary students find it hard to use their time wisely, or are not sure where to spend their time on. Having past this stage of life, I am interested to study the psychology and thought pattern of current secondary students. This is helpful to my interest in psychology and sociology. Being able to contribute and pay something back to society is also a moral responsibility that encourages me to join the Mentoring Club.

Other than these 5, there are still quite a number of you having the same opinions as them. Please do not be disheartened in any way just because your name is not posted here. In fact, your effort in writing the slip is sincerely appreciated by us. The reason we chose these five because there are more examples and some philosophical points in there. (:

Kudos! Hope to see you all soon (:
