History of NYP Mentoring Club
Initially, NYP Mentoring Club was named as BP Mentoring Club. BP Mentoring Club was sponsored by British Petroleum (BP) but since BP was sold to SPC, our Mentoring Club become independent. Consequently, we changed our name to NYP Mentoring Club. Other than coming from NYP, Mentors also come from SP, NP, RP, TP, NUS, NTU, SMU, Meridian JC, National Junior College, St Andrew JC, Temasek JC, Raffles Institute, Tanjong Katong Girls, Methodist Community Service Society, National Mentoring Network and Riverside Secondary Alumni. For more information about BP Mentoring Club, click on this website (BP Website).NYP Mentoring Club started in the year 2004 to cater to the need of the lower secondary students in Yishun Secondary School (YSS). A NYP student graduated from YSS requested his YSS teacher (Mr Chan Chee Keong) that he would like to launch this new Mentoring Club program in YSS. Hence, Mentoring Club began it journey from there.
What is Mentoring Club?
NYP Mentoring Club is a NYP CCA affiliating with secondary school. It consists of Mentors (NYP students) and Mentees (Lower Secondary School Students). You may want to think yourselves as a tutor or an adviser to the Mentees. Our purpose is to develop the Mentees' leadership quality, social skills, acadamic at the same time developing Mentors' leadership and character quality.
Who is a Mentor?
A Mentor is more than just a tutor. Other than setting papers for the Mentees to do, they are also required to organize interacting events such as weekly games, semester outing as well as camping events for the Mentors and Mentees. Most importantly, a Mentor is an older brother and sister who will guide the Mentees when they face difficulties. We also give social advices to the Mentees so as to ensure they grow up to be able to face challenges and stresses.
The Mentors

Who is a Mentee?
Mentees are the younger students whom the Mentors guide and befriend. Embarking on their first steps in society, they will inevitably face various difficulties, from academic to social. Some can cope well on their own; others may need a little help along the way.
Our Mentees are sec 1, 2 or 3 YSS students. They join Mentoring Club because they need help from people like us. They could be students who have financial problems, family problems or psychological problem. It could be their poor result that led them in Mentoring Club or they are just a group of youngsters who like to make friends with us. It could also be their interest to join Mentoring Club to get addition help from us.
